What is a Colour Change Wrap?
A colour change wrap is a high-quality vinyl film applied over your vehicle’s paint to completely transform its appearance without the need for respraying.
It’s fully reversible, protects the original paint, and comes in a wide range of finishes including matte, gloss, satin, chrome and colour-flip.
At LA Wrapz, we install every wrap with precision prep, edge-to-edge coverage, and attention to detail that makes your car stand out for all the right reasons.
How To Wrap Your Car Right
Want your car to stand out? Tired of factory colours that just don’t hit right?
A colour change wrap might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
Whether it’s matte black, brushed metal, a bold colour-flip or full chrome, wrapping your car is one of the cleanest, most customisable upgrades you can make, without going near a spray booth.
And the best part? It’s reversible. You keep your original paint protected underneath, and you can always peel it off if you want a new look later.
At LA Wrapz, we wrap cars because we love the way a good finish completely transforms a vehicle. If that hits home, keep reading. This is how we do wraps at LA Wrpaz
What’s Included in a Full Colour Change Wrap
At LA Wrapz and Autocare, we don’t cut corners. A proper wrap is more than just vinyl on a panel, it’s all about preparation, precision, and finish.
Every full colour change wrap includes a full-body transformation using high-quality films from brands we trust like 3M, Avery Dennison, and Oracal.
Every full vehicle wrap includes:
- Deep surface clean
- Clay bar decontamination
- Iron fallout treatment
- Paint prep and polish
- Edge trimming and panel alignment
- Closed-door wrap installation (no exposed original paint when doors open)
- Post-installation curing and final quality check
This process doesn’t happen in an hour, it takes time to get it right.
We treat every car like it’s our own and we stand by every wrap we deliver.
What Colour Wrap Options Are Out There?
Short answer….A lot. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Matte – No shine, clean and stealthy
- Satin – In between gloss and matte, really popular right now
- Gloss – Looks like paint, deep and reflective
- Chrome – Loud, bold, guaranteed to turn heads
- Textured – Brushed metal, carbon fibre, camo—you name it
- Colour-Flip – Changes shade depending on angle and light
And yes, we can help you decide what works best for your car’s shape and body lines. If you want subtle, we can do that. If you want to stand out, we can definitely do that too.
What Affects Wrap Cost?
We price wraps based on a few key factors:
1. Vehicle Size and Shape
A two-door coupe is faster to wrap than a large SUV. Bigger panels and complex curves take more vinyl and more time.
2. Material and Finish
Standard colours in gloss, satin, or matte are straightforward. Specialty films—like chrome, textured, or colour-shift, costs more and need extra care to install properly.
3. Level of Detail
Want the door jambs, inner edges, or under the bonnet wrapped too? That’s extra labour but worth it for a fully immersive look.
4. Customisation
Design renderings, accent colours, layered finishes, or custom stripes? All possible. We’ll guide you through what’s involved.
Popular Add-Ons and Extras
You can take your wrap even further with optional upgrades:
Ceramic Coating for Wraps
Protects the vinyl from UV, road grime, and harsh weather. Also makes washing easier.
Custom Design Visualisation
We’ll show you what the wrap will look like on your exact car before we start. Great for exploring colours or layout options.
Headlight and Taillight Tinting
Adds contrast and sharpens the overall look. Available in smoke, yellow, red, and more.
Dechrome Packages
We wrap over factory chrome trims (grilles, window surrounds, badges) for a cleaner, stealthier finish.
Roof and Bonnet Accents
If you’re not ready for a full wrap, start with bold contrast elements—matte black roof, gloss bonnet, or custom striping.
Every car and every wrap is different, so we always recommend a quick consult before quoting. Bring your ideas or just bring the car and we’ll walk you through the options.
How Long Will It Last?
With quality film and the right care, wraps generally last 3 to 7 years.
Things that affect wrap life:
- Whether your car’s parked in a garage or outside
- How often you wash it
- Whether you apply a ceramic coating (which we recommend)
Keep it clean and looked after, and you’ll get years out of it.
Pros and Cons of Wrapping Your Car
Pros:
- Way more affordable than a full paint job
- Protects your original paint
- Loads of finishes to choose from
- Fully reversible
Cons:
- Needs a proper install (this is not a DIY job)
- Cheap wrap = short lifespan. Stick with premium films.
- Harsh weather can affect lifespan without extra protection
Want it to last longer? We offer ceramic coatings made specifically for wrapped cars. It helps a lot, especially in Aussie sun.
Is Wrapping a Car Legal in Victoria?
Yep. Wrapping your car is completely legal here in Victoria, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind.
You’ve got 14 days to log the colour change. Don’t stress. We’ve wrapped hundreds of cars and we’ll tell you what to fill out.
Other things to be aware of:
- We cannot wrap over number plates (obviously)
- We cannot add wraps or reflective or high-gloss finishes on windows and headlights (not street legal)
- Make sure nothing obstructs lights, mirrors, or vision
Not sure if your idea’s all good? Ask us. We’re across it and we’ll make sure you’re sorted before anything goes on the car.
Wrap Care: How to Keep It Looking Fresh
Once your car’s wrapped, maintenance is pretty simple but it matters.
Follow these tips and your wrap will look great for years:
Wash every two weeks.
Don’t wait for the dust to cake on. A regular gentle wash keeps the vinyl in good shape.
Use a mild soap and water.
Avoid strong detergents or anything abrasive.
No automatic car washes.
The brushes can lift edges or cause scratches. Stick to hand washing.
Dry it off properly.
Water spots can stain vinyl, especially matte or satin finishes. Use a microfiber towel.
Avoid high-pressure washers on edges.
If you do use a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 1 metre away, and don’t blast seams or corners.
Consider a ceramic coating.
It gives your wrap a layer of UV and chemical protection—and makes cleaning even easier.
We’ll give you an aftercare sheet when we’re done with your wrap, just to keep things simple.
Ready for a Change?
Whether you’re going for that clean matte stealth look or a wild colour-flip that turns heads at the servo, a wrap gives your car a new personality. You get custom looks, solid protection, and a finish that’s all yours.
We wrap cars because we love what a proper finish does to a great body shape. That’s what it’s about. Making the most of what you’ve got—and standing out while you’re at it.
